An-Nās

Humanity

114:1
قُلۡ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلنَّاسِ ١
Say: I seek protection with the Lord of humanity,
114:2
مَلِكِ ٱلنَّاسِ ٢
the King of humanity,
114:3
إِلَٰهِ ٱلنَّاسِ ٣
the God of humanity,
114:4
مِن شَرِّ ٱلۡوَسۡوَاسِ ٱلۡخَنَّاسِ ٤
from the evil of the whisperer who slips away,
114:5
ٱلَّذِي يُوَسۡوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ ٥
who whispers into people's hearts,
114:6
مِنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ ٦
from among jinn and humans.
Worth knowing

The Qur'an ends by teaching us to seek Allah's protection. Fear should turn us toward Allah—not make us obsessed with evil or hidden forces.

78

An-Naba

The Great News

78:1
عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ١
What are they asking one another about?
78:2
عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٢
About the great news—
78:3
ٱلَّذِي هُمۡ فِيهِ مُخۡتَلِفُونَ ٣
the one they disagree about.
78:4
كـَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ ٤
No! They will soon come to know.
78:5
ثُمَّ كـَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ ٥
Again, no! They will soon come to know.
78:6
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِهَٰدٗا ٦
Have We not made the earth a resting place,
79

An-Nāziʿāt

Those Who Pull Out

79:1
وَٱلنَّٰزِعَٰتِ غَرۡقٗا ١
By those who pull out with force,
79:2
وَٱلنَّٰشِطَٰتِ نَشۡطٗا ٢
and those who draw out gently,
79:3
وَٱلسَّٰبِحَٰتِ سَبۡحٗا ٣
and those who glide swiftly,
79:4
فَٱلسَّٰبِقَٰتِ سَبۡقٗا ٤
then race ahead,
79:5
فَٱلۡمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمۡرٗا ٥
and carry out their appointed tasks.
79:6
يَوۡمَ تَرۡجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ ٦
On the Day when the first blast will shake everything,
80

ʿAbasa

He Frowned

80:1
عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ ١
He frowned and turned away
80:2
أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ ٢
because the blind man came to him.
80:3
وَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ ٣
But how could you know? Perhaps he might have grown in purity,
80:4
أَوۡ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰٓ ٤
or taken the reminder to heart and benefited from it.
80:5
أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ ٥
As for the one who thinks he has no need,
80:6
فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ ٦
you give him your attention,
81

At-Takwīr

The Folding Up

81:1
إِذَا ٱلشَّمۡسُ كُوِّرَتۡ ١
When the sun is folded up,
81:2
وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتۡ ٢
when the stars lose their light,
81:3
وَإِذَا ٱلۡجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتۡ ٣
when the mountains are set in motion,
81:4
وَإِذَا ٱلۡعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتۡ ٤
when the most valuable pregnant camels are abandoned,
81:5
وَإِذَا ٱلۡوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتۡ ٥
when wild animals are gathered together,
81:6
وَإِذَا ٱلۡبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتۡ ٦
when the seas are set ablaze,
82

Al-Infiṭār

The Breaking Apart

82:1
إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنفَطَرَتۡ ١
When the sky breaks apart,
82:2
وَإِذَا ٱلۡكَوَاكِبُ ٱنتَثَرَتۡ ٢
when the stars scatter,
82:3
وَإِذَا ٱلۡبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتۡ ٣
when the seas burst open,
82:4
وَإِذَا ٱلۡقُبُورُ بُعۡثِرَتۡ ٤
and when the graves are turned inside out—
82:5
عَلِمَتۡ نَفۡسٞ مَّا قَدَّمَتۡ وَأَخَّرَتۡ ٥
every person will know what they sent ahead and what they left behind.
82:6
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡكَرِيمِ ٦
O human being! What has deceived you about your generous Lord,
83

Al-Muṭaffifīn

Those Who Cheat

83:1
وَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُطَفِّفِينَ ١
Ruin awaits those who cheat others—
83:2
ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكۡتَالُواْ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسۡتَوۡفُونَ ٢
those who demand the full measure when receiving from people,
83:3
وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمۡ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمۡ يُخۡسِرُونَ ٣
but when they measure or weigh for others, they give them less.
83:4
أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبۡعُوثُونَ ٤
Do they not think that they will be raised again
83:5
لِيَوۡمٍ عَظِيمٖ ٥
for a tremendous Day—
83:6
يَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٦
84

Al-Inshiqāq

The Splitting Open

84:1
إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتۡ ١
When the sky splits open
84:2
وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ ٢
and listens to its Lord, as it must;
84:3
وَإِذَا ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مُدَّتۡ ٣
when the earth is stretched out,
84:4
وَأَلۡقَتۡ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتۡ ٤
throws out everything within it and becomes empty,
84:5
وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ ٥
and listens to its Lord, as it must—
84:6
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدۡحٗا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ ٦
O human being! You are constantly striving toward your Lord, and you will meet Him.
86

At-Ṭāriq

The Night Visitor

86:1
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ ١
By the sky and the night visitor!
86:2
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ ٢
And what could make you understand what the night visitor is?
86:3
ٱلنَّجۡمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ ٣
It is the piercing star.
86:4
إِن كُلُّ نَفۡسٖ لَّمَّا عَلَيۡهَا حَافِظٞ ٤
There is no soul without someone watching over it.
86:5
فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ ٥
So let each person consider what they were created from.
86:6
خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٖ دَافِقٖ ٦
They were created from a fluid that gushes out,
87

Al-Aʿlā

The Most High

87:1
سَبِّحِ ٱسۡمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡأَعۡلَى ١
Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High,
87:2
ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ ٢
who created and formed perfectly,
87:3
وَٱلَّذِي قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ ٣
who determined everything and guided it,
87:4
وَٱلَّذِيٓ أَخۡرَجَ ٱلۡمَرۡعَىٰ ٤
who brings out the pasture,
87:5
فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحۡوَىٰ ٥
then turns it into dark, dried plants.
87:6
سَنُقۡرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ ٦
We will have you recite, and you will not forget,
85

Al-Burūj

The Great Constellations

85:1
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡبُرُوجِ ١
By the sky filled with great constellations,
85:2
وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡمَوۡعُودِ ٢
by the promised Day,
85:3
وَشَاهِدٖ وَمَشۡهُودٖ ٣
and by the witness and what is witnessed:
85:4
قُتِلَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡأُخۡدُودِ ٤
destroyed were the people of the trench—
85:5
ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡوَقُودِ ٥
the fire filled with fuel—
85:6
إِذۡ هُمۡ عَلَيۡهَا قُعُودٞ ٦
as they sat around it,
89

Al-Fajr

The Dawn

89:1
وَٱلۡفَجۡرِ ١
By the dawn,
89:2
وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرٖ ٢
by the ten nights,
89:3
وَٱلشَّفۡعِ وَٱلۡوَتۡرِ ٣
by the even and the odd,
89:4
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَسۡرِ ٤
and by the night as it passes:
89:5
هَلۡ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٞ لِّذِي حِجۡرٍ ٥
is there not in all this an oath powerful enough for a person of understanding?
89:6
أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ ٦
Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with ʿĀd—
89:7
90

Al-Balad

The City

90:1
لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ ١
I swear by this city—
90:2
وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ ٢
while you are present in this city—
90:3
وَوَالِدٖ وَمَا وَلَدَ ٣
and by parent and child:
90:4
لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ فِي كَبَدٍ ٤
We have certainly created the human being into struggle.
90:5
أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ أَحَدٞ ٥
Do they think no one has power over them?
90:6
يَقُولُ أَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالٗا لُّبَدًا ٦
88

Al-Ghāshiyah

The Overwhelming Event

88:1
هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلۡغَٰشِيَةِ ١
Has the news of the Overwhelming Event reached you?
88:2
وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ ٢
Some faces that Day will be humbled,
88:3
عَامِلَةٞ نَّاصِبَةٞ ٣
exhausted from their efforts,
88:4
تَصۡلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةٗ ٤
entering a blazing Fire,
88:5
تُسۡقَىٰ مِنۡ عَيۡنٍ ءَانِيَةٖ ٥
and made to drink from a boiling spring.
88:6
لَّيۡسَ لَهُمۡ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٖ ٦
They will have no food except a bitter, thorny plant
91

Ash-Shams

The Sun

91:1
وَٱلشَّمۡسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا ١
By the sun and its morning brightness,
91:2
وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا ٢
by the moon as it follows it,
91:3
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا ٣
by the day as it reveals it,
91:4
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰهَا ٤
by the night as it covers it,
91:5
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا ٥
by the sky and the One who built it,
91:6
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا ٦
by the earth and the One who spread it,
92

Al-Layl

The Night

92:1
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰ ١
By the night when it covers,
92:2
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ ٢
and the day when it shines,
92:3
وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰٓ ٣
and by the One who created male and female:
92:4
إِنَّ سَعۡيَكُمۡ لَشَتَّىٰ ٤
your efforts certainly lead in different directions.
92:5
فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أَعۡطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ ٥
As for the one who gives, remains mindful of Allah,
92:6
وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ ٦
and believes in what is best,
93

Aḍ-Ḍuḥā

The Morning Light

93:1
وَٱلضُّحَىٰ ١
By the morning light,
93:2
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ ٢
and by the night when it grows still:
93:3
مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ ٣
your Lord has not left you, nor has He turned away from you.
93:4
وَلَلۡأٓخِرَةُ خَيۡرٞ لَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ ٤
And the Hereafter will certainly be better for you than this present life.
93:5
وَلَسَوۡفَ يُعۡطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرۡضَىٰٓ ٥
Your Lord will surely give you, and you will be satisfied.
94

Ash-Sharḥ

The Opening of the Heart

94:1
أَلَمۡ نَشۡرَحۡ لَكَ صَدۡرَكَ ١
Have We not opened your heart for you,
94:2
وَوَضَعۡنَا عَنكَ وِزۡرَكَ ٢
and lifted from you your burden
94:3
ٱلَّذِيٓ أَنقَضَ ظَهۡرَكَ ٣
that had weighed heavily on your back?
94:4
وَرَفَعۡنَا لَكَ ذِكۡرَكَ ٤
And We raised your mention high.
94:5
فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلۡعُسۡرِ يُسۡرًا ٥
So surely, with hardship comes ease.
94:6
إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلۡعُسۡرِ يُسۡرٗا ٦
Surely, with hardship comes ease.
95

At-Tīn

The Fig

95:1
وَٱلتِّينِ وَٱلزَّيۡتُونِ ١
By the fig and the olive,
95:2
وَطُورِ سِينِينَ ٢
by Mount Sinai,
95:3
وَهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ ٱلۡأَمِينِ ٣
and by this secure city:
95:4
لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ فِيٓ أَحۡسَنِ تَقۡوِيمٖ ٤
We certainly created the human being in the finest form.
95:5
ثُمَّ رَدَدۡنَٰهُ أَسۡفَلَ سَٰفِلِينَ ٥
Then We reduce them to the lowest of the low,
95:6
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ فَلَهُمۡ أَجۡرٌ غَيۡرُ مَمۡنُونٖ ٦
except those who believe and do good and righteous deeds. They will have a reward that never ends.
96

Al-ʿAlaq

The Clinging Form

96:1
ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ١
Read in the name of your Lord who created—
96:2
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ ٢
created the human being from a clinging form.
96:3
ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ ٣
Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous,
96:4
ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ ٤
who taught by the pen,
96:5
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ ٥
taught the human being what they did not know.
96:6
كـَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطۡغَىٰٓ ٦
No! The human being truly crosses the limits
97

Al-Qadr

The Night of Decree

97:1
إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ فِي لَيۡلَةِ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ ١
We certainly sent it down on the Night of Decree.
97:2
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ ٢
And what could make you understand what the Night of Decree is?
97:3
لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ أَلۡفِ شَهۡرٖ ٣
The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.
97:4
تَنَزَّلُ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمۡرٖ ٤
The angels and the Spirit descend during it, by their Lord's permission, with every command.
97:5
سَلَٰمٌ هِيَ حَتَّىٰ مَطۡلَعِ ٱلۡفَجۡرِ ٥
It is peace until the break of dawn.
98

Al-Bayyinah

The Clear Proof

98:1
لَمۡ يَكُنِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ مُنفَكِّينَ حَتَّىٰ تَأۡتِيَهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَةُ ١
Those who disbelieved among the People of the Book and those who associated others with Allah were not going to leave their way until the clear proof came to them:
98:2
رَسُولٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ يَتۡلُواْ صُحُفٗا مُّطَهَّرَةٗ ٢
a messenger from Allah reciting purified pages
98:3
فِيهَا كُتُبٞ قَيِّمَةٞ ٣
containing true and upright teachings.
98:4
وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَتۡهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَةُ ٤
Those who were given the Book only became divided after the clear proof had come to them.
99

Az-Zalzalah

The Earthquake

99:1
إِذَا زُلۡزِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ زِلۡزَالَهَا ١
When the earth is shaken with its final, mighty shaking,
99:2
وَأَخۡرَجَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ أَثۡقَالَهَا ٢
and the earth throws out its burdens,
99:3
وَقَالَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا لَهَا ٣
and the human being asks, “What is happening to it?”
99:4
يَوۡمَئِذٖ تُحَدِّثُ أَخۡبَارَهَا ٤
On that Day it will tell its story,
99:5
بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوۡحَىٰ لَهَا ٥
because your Lord will have commanded it.
99:6
يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَصۡدُرُ ٱلنَّاسُ أَشۡتَاتٗا لِّيُرَوۡاْ أَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ ٦
100

Al-ʿĀdiyāt

The Charging Runners

100:1
وَٱلۡعَٰدِيَٰتِ ضَبۡحٗا ١
By the runners charging forward, panting,
100:2
فَٱلۡمُورِيَٰتِ قَدۡحٗا ٢
striking sparks as they run,
100:3
فَٱلۡمُغِيرَٰتِ صُبۡحٗا ٣
launching a raid at dawn,
100:4
فَأَثَرۡنَ بِهِۦ نَقۡعٗا ٤
stirring up clouds of dust,
100:5
فَوَسَطۡنَ بِهِۦ جَمۡعًا ٥
then breaking straight into the middle of a group:
100:6
إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَكَنُودٞ ٦
the human being is truly ungrateful to their Lord,
101

Al-Qāriʿah

The Striking Calamity

101:1
ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ ١
The Striking Calamity!
101:2
مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ ٢
What is the Striking Calamity?
101:3
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ ٣
And what could make you understand what the Striking Calamity is?
101:4
يَوۡمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلۡفَرَاشِ ٱلۡمَبۡثُوثِ ٤
It is the Day when people will be like scattered moths,
101:5
وَتَكُونُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَٱلۡعِهۡنِ ٱلۡمَنفُوشِ ٥
and the mountains will be like fluffed-up wool.
101:6
فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ ٦
Then as for the one whose scales are heavy,
103

Al-ʿAṣr

Time

103:1
وَٱلۡعَصۡرِ ١
By time—
103:2
إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَفِي خُسۡرٍ ٢
humanity is truly in loss,
103:3
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ ٣
except those who believe, do good and righteous deeds, encourage one another to hold firmly to the truth, and encourage one another to remain patient and steadfast.
104

Al-Humazah

The Backbiter

104:1
وَيۡلٞ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٖ لُّمَزَةٍ ١
Ruin awaits every person who mocks and tears others down,
104:2
ٱلَّذِي جَمَعَ مَالٗا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ ٢
who gathers wealth and keeps counting it,
104:3
يَحۡسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخۡلَدَهُۥ ٣
thinking their wealth will make them last forever.
104:4
كـَلَّاۖ لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِي ٱلۡحُطَمَةِ ٤
No! They will certainly be thrown into the Crusher.
104:5
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحُطَمَةُ ٥
And what could make you understand what the Crusher is?
102

At-Takāthur

Competing for More

102:1
أَلۡهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ ١
Competing to have more distracts you
102:2
حَتَّىٰ زُرۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ ٢
until you reach the graves.
102:3
كـَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ ٣
No! You will soon know.
102:4
ثُمَّ كـَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ ٤
Again, no! You will soon know.
102:5
كـَلَّا لَوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عِلۡمَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ ٥
No! If only you knew with real certainty.
102:6
لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ ٦
105

Al-Fīl

The Elephant

105:1
أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡفِيلِ ١
Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with the people of the elephant?
105:2
أَلَمۡ يَجۡعَلۡ كَيۡدَهُمۡ فِي تَضۡلِيلٖ ٢
Did He not cause their plan to end in failure?
105:3
وَأَرۡسَلَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ طَيۡرًا أَبَابِيلَ ٣
He sent against them flocks of birds,
105:4
تَرۡمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٖ مِّن سِجِّيلٖ ٤
striking them with stones of baked clay,
105:5
فَجَعَلَهُمۡ كَعَصۡفٖ مَّأۡكُولِۭ ٥
leaving them like chewed-up stalks.
106

Quraysh

Quraysh

106:1
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ ١
For the security and familiarity enjoyed by Quraysh—
106:2
إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡ رِحۡلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيۡفِ ٢
their security in the journeys of winter and summer—
106:3
فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٣
let them worship the Lord of this House,
106:4
ٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٖ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنۡ خَوۡفِۭ ٤
who fed them against hunger and gave them safety from fear.
107

Al-Māʿūn

Everyday Help

107:1
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ١
Have you seen the one who denies the Judgment?
107:2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ ٢
That is the one who pushes the orphan away
107:3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ٣
and does not encourage feeding the poor.
107:4
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ ٤
So ruin awaits those who pray—
107:5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
yet are careless about their prayer,
108

Al-Kawthar

Abundant Good

108:1
إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
We have certainly given you al-Kawthar—abundant good.
108:2
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ ٢
So pray to your Lord and sacrifice for Him.
108:3
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ ٣
Surely, the one who hates you is the one cut off.
109

Al-Kāfirūn

Those Who Reject Faith

109:1
قُلۡ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ ١
Say: O you who reject faith,
109:2
لَآ أَعۡبُدُ مَا تَعۡبُدُونَ ٢
I do not worship what you worship,
109:3
وَلَآ أَنتُمۡ عَٰبِدُونَ مَآ أَعۡبُدُ ٣
nor do you worship the One I worship.
109:4
وَلَآ أَنَا۠ عَابِدٞ مَّا عَبَدتُّمۡ ٤
And I will never worship what you have worshipped,
109:5
وَلَآ أَنتُمۡ عَٰبِدُونَ مَآ أَعۡبُدُ ٥
nor will you worship the One I worship.
109:6
لَكُمۡ دِينُكُمۡ وَلِيَ دِينِ ٦
For you is your way, and for me is mine.
110

An-Naṣr

The Help

110:1
إِذَا جَآءَ نَصۡرُ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡفَتۡحُ ١
When Allah's help and the victory come,
110:2
وَرَأَيۡتَ ٱلنَّاسَ يَدۡخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ ٱللَّهِ أَفۡوَاجٗا ٢
and you see people entering the religion of Allah in crowds,
110:3
فَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ تَوَّابَۢا ٣
then glorify your Lord with praise and ask His forgiveness. He is always accepting of repentance.
78:7
وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَوۡتَادٗا ٧
and the mountains like stakes?
78:8
وَخَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا ٨
And We created you in pairs,
78:9
وَجَعَلۡنَا نَوۡمَكُمۡ سُبَاتٗا ٩
and made your sleep a time of rest,
78:10
وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلَّيۡلَ لِبَاسٗا ١٠
and made the night a covering,
78:11
وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشٗا ١١
and made the day a time for livelihood.
78:12
وَبَنَيۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعٗا شِدَادٗا ١٢
And We built above you seven mighty heavens,
78:13
وَجَعَلۡنَا سِرَاجٗا وَهَّاجٗا ١٣
and placed there a blazing lamp.
78:14
وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمُعۡصِرَٰتِ مَآءٗ ثَجَّاجٗا ١٤
And We send down pouring water from the rain clouds,
78:15
لِّنُخۡرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبّٗا وَنَبَاتٗا ١٥
so that We may bring out with it grain and plants,
78:16
وَجَنَّٰتٍ أَلۡفَافًا ١٦
and gardens growing thick together.
78:17
إِنَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتٗا ١٧
Surely, the Day of Decision has a set time.
78:18
يَوۡمَ يُنفَخُ فِي ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأۡتُونَ أَفۡوَاجٗا ١٨
On that Day, the Trumpet will be blown, and you will come forward in crowds.
78:19
وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتۡ أَبۡوَٰبٗا ١٩
The sky will be opened, becoming gateways,
78:20
وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ فَكَانَتۡ سَرَابًا ٢٠
and the mountains will be set in motion, becoming like a mirage.
78:21
إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتۡ مِرۡصَادٗا ٢١
Hell is certainly lying in wait,
78:22
لِّلطَّٰغِينَ مَـَٔابٗا ٢٢
a destination for those who cross the limits.
78:23
لَّٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحۡقَابٗا ٢٣
They will remain there for ages,
78:24
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرۡدٗا وَلَا شَرَابًا ٢٤
tasting neither coolness nor any drink,
78:25
إِلَّا حَمِيمٗا وَغَسَّاقٗا ٢٥
except scalding water and a foul fluid—
78:26
جَزَآءٗ وِفَاقًا ٢٦
a fitting repayment.
78:27
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ لَا يَرۡجُونَ حِسَابٗا ٢٧
They did not expect to be held to account,
78:28
وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابٗا ٢٨
and completely rejected Our signs as lies.
78:29
وَكُلَّ شَيۡءٍ أَحۡصَيۡنَٰهُ كِتَٰبٗا ٢٩
Yet We have recorded everything in a Book.
78:30
فَذُوقُواْ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمۡ إِلَّا عَذَابًا ٣٠
So taste it! We will only increase you in punishment.
78:31
إِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا ٣١
But those who remained mindful of Allah will have a place of success:
Worth knowing

Being mindful of Allah means living with an awareness of Him that affects what we choose to do and what we stay away from.

78:32
حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعۡنَٰبٗا ٣٢
gardens and grapevines,
78:33
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتۡرَابٗا ٣٣
companions of matching age,
78:34
وَكَأۡسٗا دِهَاقٗا ٣٤
and overflowing cups.
78:35
لَّا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوٗا وَلَا كِذَّٰبٗا ٣٥
There they will hear no empty talk and no lies—
78:36
جَزَآءٗ مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابٗا ٣٦
a reward from your Lord, a generous gift,
78:37
رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِۖ لَا يَمۡلِكُونَ مِنۡهُ خِطَابٗا ٣٧
from the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything between them—the Most Merciful. No one will have the power to speak before Him.
78:38
يَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ صَفّٗاۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنۡ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابٗا ٣٨
On the Day when the Spirit and the angels stand in rows, no one will speak except the one the Most Merciful allows, and they will speak what is right.
78:39
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا ٣٩
That is the Day of Truth. So whoever wishes may take a path back to their Lord.
78:40
إِنَّآ أَنذَرۡنَٰكُمۡ عَذَابٗا قَرِيبٗا يَوۡمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلۡكَافِرُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَٰبَۢا ٤٠
We have certainly warned you of a punishment that is near—the Day when each person will see what their own hands have sent ahead, and the disbeliever will say, “If only I were dust!”
79:7
تَتۡبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ ٧
followed by another,
79:8
قُلُوبٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ وَاجِفَةٌ ٨
hearts that Day will be trembling,
79:9
أَبۡصَٰرُهَا خَٰشِعَةٞ ٩
their eyes lowered in fear.
79:10
يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرۡدُودُونَ فِي ٱلۡحَافِرَةِ ١٠
They say, “Will we really be brought back to our former state,
79:11
أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰمٗا نَّخِرَةٗ ١١
even after we have become decayed bones?”
79:12
قَالُواْ تِلۡكَ إِذٗا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٞ ١٢
They say, “Then that would be a losing return!”
79:13
فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجۡرَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ ١٣
But it will take only one mighty blast,
79:14
فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ ١٤
and suddenly they will be back above ground.
79:15
هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ ١٥
Has the story of Musa reached you?
79:16
إِذۡ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلۡوَادِ ٱلۡمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى ١٦
His Lord called him in the sacred valley of Ṭuwā:
79:17
ٱذۡهَبۡ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ ١٧
“Go to Pharaoh. He has truly crossed all limits.
79:18
فَقُلۡ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ ١٨
And say, ‘Are you willing to purify yourself?
79:19
وَأَهۡدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخۡشَىٰ ١٩
Let me guide you to your Lord, so that you may stand in awe of Him.’”
79:20
فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلۡأٓيَةَ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰ ٢٠
Then Musa showed him the great sign.
79:21
فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ ٢١
But Pharaoh rejected it and disobeyed.
79:22
ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ يَسۡعَىٰ ٢٢
Then he turned away, working against the truth.
79:23
فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ ٢٣
He gathered his people and called out,
79:24
فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ ٢٤
saying, “I am your highest lord!”
79:25
فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰٓ ٢٥
So Allah seized him with punishment for both his last claim and his earlier wrongdoing.
79:26
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبۡرَةٗ لِّمَن يَخۡشَىٰٓ ٢٦
There is truly a lesson in this for anyone who stands in awe of Allah.
79:27
ءَأَنتُمۡ أَشَدُّ خَلۡقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُۚ بَنَىٰهَا ٢٧
Are you harder to create, or the sky? He built it.
79:28
رَفَعَ سَمۡكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا ٢٨
He raised it high and formed it perfectly.
79:29
وَأَغۡطَشَ لَيۡلَهَا وَأَخۡرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا ٢٩
He darkened its night and brought out its daylight.
79:30
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ ٣٠
And after that, He spread out the earth,
79:31
أَخۡرَجَ مِنۡهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرۡعَىٰهَا ٣١
bringing out its water and its pasture,
79:32
وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَرۡسَىٰهَا ٣٢
and firmly setting the mountains—
79:33
مَتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ ٣٣
all as provision for you and your animals.
79:34
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰ ٣٤
Then, when the overwhelming disaster comes—
79:35
يَوۡمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ ٣٥
the Day when each person will remember everything they worked for,
79:36
وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلۡجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ ٣٦
and Hell will be made clearly visible to everyone who can see—
79:37
فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ ٣٧
then as for the one who crossed all limits
79:38
وَءَاثَرَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا ٣٨
and preferred the life of this world,
79:39
فَإِنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ هِيَ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰ ٣٩
Hell will certainly be their home.
79:40
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفۡسَ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰ ٤٠
But as for the one who feared standing before their Lord and held themselves back from wrongful desires,
79:41
فَإِنَّ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ هِيَ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰ ٤١
Paradise will certainly be their home.
79:42
يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرۡسَىٰهَا ٤٢
They ask you about the Hour: “When will it arrive?”
79:43
فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكۡرَىٰهَآ ٤٣
But what knowledge do you have to tell them its time?
79:44
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ ٤٤
Its final knowledge belongs to your Lord.
79:45
إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخۡشَىٰهَا ٤٥
You are only a warner for those who fear it.
79:46
كَأَنَّهُمۡ يَوۡمَ يَرَوۡنَهَا لَمۡ يَلۡبَثُوٓاْ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوۡ ضُحَىٰهَا ٤٦
On the Day they see it, it will seem as though they had stayed only an evening or a morning.
80:7
وَمَا عَلَيۡكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ ٧
though you are not responsible if he refuses to become pure.
80:8
وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسۡعَىٰ ٨
But as for the one who came to you eagerly,
80:9
وَهُوَ يَخۡشَىٰ ٩
with fear of Allah in his heart,
80:10
فَأَنتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهَّىٰ ١٠
you were distracted from him.
80:11
كـَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةٞ ١١
No! This is truly a reminder.
80:12
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ ١٢
So whoever wishes may take it to heart.
80:13
فِي صُحُفٖ مُّكَرَّمَةٖ ١٣
It is recorded on honored pages,
80:14
مَّرۡفُوعَةٖ مُّطَهَّرَةِۭ ١٤
raised high and kept pure,
80:15
بِأَيۡدِي سَفَرَةٖ ١٥
in the hands of messengers,
80:16
كِرَامِۭ بَرَرَةٖ ١٦
noble and devoted.
80:17
قُتِلَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكۡفَرَهُۥ ١٧
How ungrateful human beings can be!
80:18
مِنۡ أَيِّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ ١٨
From what did Allah create them?
80:19
مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ ١٩
From a tiny drop. He created them and determined their course.
80:20
ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ ٢٠
Then He made the way easy for them.
80:21
ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقۡبَرَهُۥ ٢١
Then He causes them to die and be buried.
80:22
ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ ٢٢
Then, when He wills, He will raise them back to life.
80:23
كـَلَّا لَمَّا يَقۡضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ ٢٣
No! Human beings have still not fulfilled what He commanded them.
80:24
فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ ٢٤
Let people look carefully at their food:
80:25
أَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا ٱلۡمَآءَ صَبّٗا ٢٥
We pour down water in abundance,
80:26
ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ شَقّٗا ٢٦
then split open the earth,
80:27
فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا حَبّٗا ٢٧
causing grain to grow from it,
80:28
وَعِنَبٗا وَقَضۡبٗا ٢٨
along with grapes and fresh plants,
80:29
وَزَيۡتُونٗا وَنَخۡلٗا ٢٩
olives and date palms,
80:30
وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلۡبٗا ٣٠
dense gardens,
80:31
وَفَٰكِهَةٗ وَأَبّٗا ٣١
fruits and pasture—
80:32
مَّتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ ٣٢
provision for you and your animals.
80:33
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ ٣٣
Then, when the deafening blast comes—
80:34
يَوۡمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ أَخِيهِ ٣٤
on that Day a person will run from their own brother,
80:35
وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ ٣٥
their mother and their father,
80:36
وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ ٣٦
their spouse and their children.
80:37
لِكُلِّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ شَأۡنٞ يُغۡنِيهِ ٣٧
Every one of them that Day will have enough to worry about for themselves.
80:38
وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ مُّسۡفِرَةٞ ٣٨
Some faces that Day will be bright,
80:39
ضَاحِكَةٞ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَةٞ ٣٩
laughing and full of joy.
80:40
وَوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةٞ ٤٠
And other faces that Day will be covered with dust,
80:41
تَرۡهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ ٤١
overwhelmed by darkness.
80:42
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡكَفَرَةُ ٱلۡفَجَرَةُ ٤٢
Those will be the disbelievers—the shamelessly wicked.
81:7
وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتۡ ٧
when souls are brought together,
81:8
وَإِذَا ٱلۡمَوۡءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتۡ ٨
when the baby girl buried alive is asked
81:9
بِأَيِّ ذَنۢبٖ قُتِلَتۡ ٩
for what crime she was killed,
81:10
وَإِذَا ٱلصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتۡ ١٠
when the records are spread open,
81:11
وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتۡ ١١
when the sky is stripped away,
81:12
وَإِذَا ٱلۡجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتۡ ١٢
when Hell is fiercely ignited,
81:13
وَإِذَا ٱلۡجَنَّةُ أُزۡلِفَتۡ ١٣
and when Paradise is brought near—
81:14
عَلِمَتۡ نَفۡسٞ مَّآ أَحۡضَرَتۡ ١٤
every person will know what they have brought with them.
81:15
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلۡخُنَّسِ ١٥
No! I swear by the stars that withdraw,
81:16
ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡكُنَّسِ ١٦
moving along and disappearing,
81:17
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا عَسۡعَسَ ١٧
and by the night as it draws away,
81:18
وَٱلصُّبۡحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ ١٨
and by the morning as it begins to breathe:
81:19
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلُ رَسُولٖ كَرِيمٖ ١٩
this is truly a message delivered by a noble messenger,
81:20
ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِي ٱلۡعَرۡشِ مَكِينٖ ٢٠
full of strength and honored before the Lord of the Throne,
81:21
مُّطَاعٖ ثَمَّ أَمِينٖ ٢١
obeyed there and trustworthy.
81:22
وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجۡنُونٖ ٢٢
Your companion is not insane.
81:23
وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ بِٱلۡأُفُقِ ٱلۡمُبِينِ ٢٣
He certainly saw him on the clear horizon.
81:24
وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ٱلۡغَيۡبِ بِضَنِينٖ ٢٤
And he does not withhold what he has been given of the unseen.
81:25
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوۡلِ شَيۡطَٰنٖ رَّجِيمٖ ٢٥
Nor is this the word of an outcast devil.
81:26
فَأَيۡنَ تَذۡهَبُونَ ٢٦
So where are you going?
81:27
إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرٞ لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٢٧
It is nothing less than a reminder for all people—
81:28
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمۡ أَن يَسۡتَقِيمَ ٢٨
for whoever among you wants to follow a straight path.
81:29
وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٢٩
But you cannot will it unless Allah, Lord of all worlds, wills.
82:7
ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ ٧
who created you, formed you, and gave you balance,
82:8
فِيٓ أَيِّ صُورَةٖ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ ٨
shaping you in whatever form He willed?
82:9
كـَلَّا بَلۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِٱلدِّينِ ٩
Yet you still deny the Judgment!
82:10
وَإِنَّ عَلَيۡكُمۡ لَحَٰفِظِينَ ١٠
There are certainly watchers over you,
82:11
كِرَامٗا كَٰتِبِينَ ١١
noble recorders,
82:12
يَعۡلَمُونَ مَا تَفۡعَلُونَ ١٢
who know what you do.
82:13
إِنَّ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٖ ١٣
The righteous will certainly be in bliss,
82:14
وَإِنَّ ٱلۡفُجَّارَ لَفِي جَحِيمٖ ١٤
while the wicked will certainly be in Hell.
82:15
يَصۡلَوۡنَهَا يَوۡمَ ٱلدِّينِ ١٥
They will enter it on the Day of Judgment,
82:16
وَمَا هُمۡ عَنۡهَا بِغَآئِبِينَ ١٦
and they will not be able to escape from it.
82:17
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ ١٧
And what could make you understand what the Day of Judgment is?
82:18
ثُمَّ مَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ ١٨
Again, what could make you understand what the Day of Judgment is?
82:19
يَوۡمَ لَا تَمۡلِكُ نَفۡسٞ لِّنَفۡسٖ شَيۡـٔٗاۖ وَٱلۡأَمۡرُ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلَّهِ ١٩
It is the Day when no soul will have the power to do anything for another soul. All authority that Day belongs to Allah.
the Day all people will stand before the Lord of all worlds?
83:7
كـَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلۡفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٖ ٧
No! The record of the wicked is certainly in Sijjīn.
83:8
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٞ ٨
And what could make you understand what Sijjīn is?
83:9
كِتَٰبٞ مَّرۡقُومٞ ٩
A record firmly written.
83:10
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ١٠
Ruin that Day awaits those who deny—
83:11
ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ ١١
those who deny the Day of Judgment.
83:12
وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعۡتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ ١٢
And no one denies it except every sinful person who crosses the limits.
83:13
إِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ١٣
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, “Stories of people from long ago!”
83:14
كـَلَّاۖ بَلۡۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ ١٤
No! Instead, what they kept doing has covered their hearts like a stain.
83:15
كـَلَّآ إِنَّهُمۡ عَن رَّبِّهِمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّمَحۡجُوبُونَ ١٥
No! On that Day they will certainly be shut away from their Lord.
83:16
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمۡ لَصَالُواْ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ ١٦
Then they will certainly enter Hell.
83:17
ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ١٧
Then they will be told, “This is what you used to deny.”
83:18
كـَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ ١٨
No! The record of the righteous is certainly in ʿIlliyyīn.
83:19
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ ١٩
And what could make you understand what ʿIlliyyīn is?
83:20
كِتَٰبٞ مَّرۡقُومٞ ٢٠
A record firmly written,
83:21
يَشۡهَدُهُ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ ٢١
witnessed by those brought near to Allah.
83:22
إِنَّ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ ٢٢
The righteous will certainly be in bliss,
83:23
عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ ٢٣
relaxing on raised couches, looking on.
83:24
تَعۡرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمۡ نَضۡرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ٢٤
You will recognize the glow of happiness on their faces.
83:25
يُسۡقَوۡنَ مِن رَّحِيقٖ مَّخۡتُومٍ ٢٥
They will be given a sealed, pure drink,
83:26
خِتَٰمُهُۥ مِسۡكٞۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلۡيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلۡمُتَنَٰفِسُونَ ٢٦
whose finish is musk. So for something like this, let people compete!
83:27
وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسۡنِيمٍ ٢٧
And it will be blended with Tasnīm,
83:28
عَيۡنٗا يَشۡرَبُ بِهَا ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ ٢٨
a spring from which those brought near to Allah will drink.
83:29
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجۡرَمُواْ كَانُواْ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ يَضۡحَكُونَ ٢٩
Those who committed crimes used to laugh at the believers,
83:30
وَإِذَا مَرُّواْ بِهِمۡ يَتَغَامَزُونَ ٣٠
and when they passed them, they would wink at one another.
83:31
وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓاْ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُواْ فَكِهِينَ ٣١
When they returned to their own people, they would return joking about them.
83:32
وَإِذَا رَأَوۡهُمۡ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ ٣٢
And whenever they saw the believers, they would say, “These people are definitely lost.”
83:33
وَمَآ أُرۡسِلُواْ عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَٰفِظِينَ ٣٣
But they were never appointed to watch over the believers.
83:34
فَٱلۡيَوۡمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مِنَ ٱلۡكُفَّارِ يَضۡحَكُونَ ٣٤
So on that Day, the believers will laugh at the disbelievers,
83:35
عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ ٣٥
while relaxing on raised couches, looking on.
83:36
هَلۡ ثُوِّبَ ٱلۡكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُواْ يَفۡعَلُونَ ٣٦
Have the disbelievers not been repaid for what they used to do?
84:7
فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ ٧
Then whoever is given their record in their right hand
84:8
فَسَوۡفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابٗا يَسِيرٗا ٨
will receive an easy accounting
84:9
وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورٗا ٩
and return joyfully to their people.
84:10
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهۡرِهِۦ ١٠
But whoever is given their record from behind their back
84:11
فَسَوۡفَ يَدۡعُواْ ثُبُورٗا ١١
will cry out for destruction
84:12
وَيَصۡلَىٰ سَعِيرًا ١٢
and enter a blazing Fire.
84:13
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِيٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورًا ١٣
They once lived happily among their people,
84:14
إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ ١٤
thinking they would never return.
84:15
بَلَىٰٓۚ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرٗا ١٥
Yes indeed! Their Lord was always watching them.
84:16
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ ١٦
So I swear by the evening glow,
84:17
وَٱلَّيۡلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ ١٧
by the night and all that it gathers,
84:18
وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ ١٨
and by the moon as it becomes full:
84:19
لَتَرۡكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٖ ١٩
you will certainly pass from one stage to another.
84:20
فَمَا لَهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٢٠
So what is the matter with them that they do not believe,
84:21
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ لَا يَسۡجُدُونَۤ۩ ٢١
and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not bow down?
84:22
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُكَذِّبُونَ ٢٢
Instead, those who disbelieve continue to deny.
84:23
وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ ٢٣
Allah knows best what they keep hidden inside.
84:24
فَبَشِّرۡهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ٢٤
So give them news of a painful punishment—
84:25
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرٌ غَيۡرُ مَمۡنُونِۭ ٢٥
except those who believe and do good and righteous deeds. They will have a reward that never ends.
86:7
يَخۡرُجُ مِنۢ بَيۡنِ ٱلصُّلۡبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ ٧
emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.
86:8
إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجۡعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٞ ٨
Allah is certainly able to bring them back.
86:9
يَوۡمَ تُبۡلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ ٩
On the Day when all secrets are exposed,
86:10
فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٖ وَلَا نَاصِرٖ ١٠
a person will have no power and no one to help them.
86:11
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجۡعِ ١١
By the sky that sends back rain again and again,
86:12
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدۡعِ ١٢
and the earth that splits open with growth:
86:13
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلٞ فَصۡلٞ ١٣
this is truly a decisive Word.
86:14
وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلۡهَزۡلِ ١٤
It is not something to be taken lightly.
86:15
إِنَّهُمۡ يَكِيدُونَ كَيۡدٗا ١٥
They are making their plans,
86:16
وَأَكِيدُ كَيۡدٗا ١٦
and I too am planning.
86:17
فَمَهِّلِ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ أَمۡهِلۡهُمۡ رُوَيۡدَۢا ١٧
So give the disbelievers some time. Leave them for a little while.
87:7
إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡجَهۡرَ وَمَا يَخۡفَىٰ ٧
except what Allah wills. He certainly knows what is open and what is hidden.
87:8
وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلۡيُسۡرَىٰ ٨
And We will make the way of ease easy for you.
87:9
فَذَكِّرۡ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ ٩
So keep reminding, wherever the reminder is of benefit.
87:10
سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخۡشَىٰ ١٠
The one who stands in awe of Allah will take the reminder,
87:11
وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلۡأَشۡقَى ١١
while the most miserable will turn away from it—
87:12
ٱلَّذِي يَصۡلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰ ١٢
the one who will enter the greatest Fire,
87:13
ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحۡيَىٰ ١٣
where they will neither die nor truly live.
87:14
قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ ١٤
Successful indeed is the one who purifies themselves,
87:15
وَذَكَرَ ٱسۡمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ ١٥
remembers the name of their Lord, and prays.
87:16
بَلۡ تُؤۡثِرُونَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا ١٦
But you prefer the life of this world,
87:17
وَٱلۡأٓخِرَةُ خَيۡرٞ وَأَبۡقَىٰٓ ١٧
even though the Hereafter is better and more lasting.
87:18
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِي ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ ١٨
This message was certainly in the earlier scriptures—
87:19
صُحُفِ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ ١٩
the scriptures of Ibrahim and Musa.
85:7
وَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفۡعَلُونَ بِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ شُهُودٞ ٧
watching what they were doing to the believers.
85:8
وَمَا نَقَمُواْ مِنۡهُمۡ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤۡمِنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡحَمِيدِ ٨
They hated them for no reason except that they believed in Allah—the Almighty, the One worthy of all praise,
85:9
ٱلَّذِي لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ شَهِيدٌ ٩
the One to whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is Witness over everything.
85:10
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُواْ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَتُوبُواْ فَلَهُمۡ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابُ ٱلۡحَرِيقِ ١٠
Those who persecuted believing men and women and then did not repent will have the punishment of Hell and the punishment of the burning Fire.
85:11
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمۡ جَنَّٰتٞ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡكَبِيرُ ١١
But those who believe and do good and righteous deeds will have Gardens with rivers flowing beneath them. That is the great success.
85:12
إِنَّ بَطۡشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ ١٢
Your Lord's grip is truly severe.
85:13
إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبۡدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ ١٣
He is the One who begins creation and brings it back again.
85:14
وَهُوَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلۡوَدُودُ ١٤
And He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Loving,
85:15
ذُو ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡمَجِيدُ ١٥
Lord of the Throne, the Glorious,
85:16
فَعَّالٞ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ ١٦
who does whatever He wills.
85:17
هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلۡجُنُودِ ١٧
Has the story of the armies reached you—
85:18
فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَثَمُودَ ١٨
Pharaoh and Thamūd?
85:19
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فِي تَكۡذِيبٖ ١٩
Yet those who disbelieve continue in denial,
85:20
وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطُۢ ٢٠
while Allah surrounds them from every side.
85:21
بَلۡ هُوَ قُرۡءَانٞ مَّجِيدٞ ٢١
In fact, this is a glorious Qur'an,
85:22
فِي لَوۡحٖ مَّحۡفُوظِۭ ٢٢
preserved on a guarded Tablet.
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلۡعِمَادِ ٧
the people of Iram, known for their great pillars,
89:8
ٱلَّتِي لَمۡ يُخۡلَقۡ مِثۡلُهَا فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ ٨
the like of whom had never been created in their lands—
89:9
وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُواْ ٱلصَّخۡرَ بِٱلۡوَادِ ٩
and Thamūd, who carved into the rocks of the valley,
89:10
وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِي ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ ١٠
and Pharaoh, the one of the stakes?
89:11
ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ ١١
They all crossed the limits in their lands
89:12
فَأَكۡثَرُواْ فِيهَا ٱلۡفَسَادَ ١٢
and spread corruption throughout them.
89:13
فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍ ١٣
So your Lord poured upon them a flood of punishment.
89:14
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلۡمِرۡصَادِ ١٤
Your Lord is certainly always watching.
89:15
فَأَمَّا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَكۡرَمَنِ ١٥
As for the human being: when their Lord tests them by honoring them and giving them blessings, they say, “My Lord has honored me.”
89:16
وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَهَٰنَنِ ١٦
But when He tests them by limiting their provision, they say, “My Lord has humiliated me.”
89:17
كـَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا تُكۡرِمُونَ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ ١٧
No! The truth is that you do not honor the orphan,
89:18
وَلَا تَحَٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ١٨
nor do you encourage one another to feed the poor.
89:19
وَتَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكۡلٗا لَّمّٗا ١٩
You consume inheritance greedily,
89:20
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡمَالَ حُبّٗا جَمّٗا ٢٠
and you love wealth with an intense love.
89:21
كـَلَّآۖ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ دَكّٗا دَكّٗا ٢١
No! When the earth is crushed again and again,
89:22
وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلۡمَلَكُ صَفّٗا صَفّٗا ٢٢
and your Lord comes, with the angels in rows upon rows,
89:23
وَجِاْيٓءَ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِجَهَنَّمَۚ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ ٢٣
and Hell is brought forward that Day—on that Day people will finally remember. But what good will remembering do then?
89:24
يَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَيَاتِي ٢٤
They will say, “If only I had sent something ahead for my real life!”
89:25
فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٞ ٢٥
On that Day, no one punishes as He punishes,
89:26
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٞ ٢٦
and no one binds as He binds.
89:27
يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفۡسُ ٱلۡمُطۡمَئِنَّةُ ٢٧
But you, soul at peace,
89:28
ٱرۡجِعِيٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةٗ مَّرۡضِيَّةٗ ٢٨
return to your Lord, pleased and pleasing.
89:29
فَٱدۡخُلِي فِي عِبَٰدِي ٢٩
Enter among My servants,
89:30
وَٱدۡخُلِي جَنَّتِي ٣٠
and enter My Paradise.
They say, “I have spent huge amounts of wealth!”
90:7
أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّمۡ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ٧
Do they think no one has seen them?
90:8
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ عَيۡنَيۡنِ ٨
Have We not given them two eyes,
90:9
وَلِسَانٗا وَشَفَتَيۡنِ ٩
a tongue and two lips,
90:10
وَهَدَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجۡدَيۡنِ ١٠
and shown them the two paths?
90:11
فَلَا ٱقۡتَحَمَ ٱلۡعَقَبَةَ ١١
Yet they have not attempted the steep path.
90:12
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡعَقَبَةُ ١٢
And what could make you understand what the steep path is?
90:13
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ١٣
It is freeing a person from bondage,
90:14
أَوۡ إِطۡعَٰمٞ فِي يَوۡمٖ ذِي مَسۡغَبَةٖ ١٤
or giving food on a day of severe hunger
90:15
يَتِيمٗا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍ ١٥
to an orphan who is a close relative,
90:16
أَوۡ مِسۡكِينٗا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةٖ ١٦
or to a poor person in desperate need.
90:17
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِ ١٧
And then being among those who believe and encourage one another to remain patient and encourage one another to show mercy.
90:18
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ ١٨
These are the people of the right.
90:19
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ ١٩
But those who reject Our signs are the people of the left.
90:20
عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَارٞ مُّؤۡصَدَةُۢ ٢٠
A Fire will close in over them.
88:7
لَّا يُسۡمِنُ وَلَا يُغۡنِي مِن جُوعٖ ٧
that neither nourishes nor satisfies hunger.
88:8
وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ نَّاعِمَةٞ ٨
Other faces that Day will be full of joy,
88:9
لِّسَعۡيِهَا رَاضِيَةٞ ٩
pleased with what they worked for,
88:10
فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٖ ١٠
in a lofty Garden,
88:11
لَّا تَسۡمَعُ فِيهَا لَٰغِيَةٗ ١١
where they will hear no useless talk.
88:12
فِيهَا عَيۡنٞ جَارِيَةٞ ١٢
In it will be a flowing spring,
88:13
فِيهَا سُرُرٞ مَّرۡفُوعَةٞ ١٣
raised couches,
88:14
وَأَكۡوَابٞ مَّوۡضُوعَةٞ ١٤
cups set in place,
88:15
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصۡفُوفَةٞ ١٥
cushions arranged in rows,
88:16
وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبۡثُوثَةٌ ١٦
and carpets spread out.
88:17
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡإِبِلِ كَيۡفَ خُلِقَتۡ ١٧
Do they not look at the camels—how they were created?
88:18
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيۡفَ رُفِعَتۡ ١٨
And at the sky—how it was raised?
88:19
وَإِلَى ٱلۡجِبَالِ كَيۡفَ نُصِبَتۡ ١٩
And at the mountains—how they were firmly set?
88:20
وَإِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ كَيۡفَ سُطِحَتۡ ٢٠
And at the earth—how it was spread out?
88:21
فَذَكِّرۡ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٞ ٢١
So keep reminding. Your task is only to remind.
88:22
لَّسۡتَ عَلَيۡهِم بِمُصَيۡطِرٍ ٢٢
You are not there to force them.
88:23
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ ٢٣
But whoever turns away and disbelieves,
88:24
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرَ ٢٤
Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment.
88:25
إِنَّ إِلَيۡنَآ إِيَابَهُمۡ ٢٥
They will certainly return to Us,
88:26
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا حِسَابَهُم ٢٦
and then it is for Us to call them to account.
91:7
وَنَفۡسٖ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا ٧
and by the soul and the One who formed it,
91:8
فَأَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقۡوَىٰهَا ٨
then inspired it with awareness of its wrongdoing and its mindfulness of Allah:
91:9
قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا ٩
successful indeed is the one who purifies it,
91:10
وَقَدۡ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا ١٠
and lost indeed is the one who corrupts it.
91:11
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِطَغۡوَىٰهَآ ١١
Thamūd rejected the truth in their rebellion,
91:12
إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشۡقَىٰهَا ١٢
when the most wicked among them rose up.
91:13
فَقَالَ لَهُمۡ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقۡيَٰهَا ١٣
Allah's messenger warned them, “Leave Allah's she-camel and her right to drink!”
91:14
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمۡدَمَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمۡ فَسَوَّىٰهَا ١٤
But they rejected him and killed her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin, leveling them completely.
91:15
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقۡبَٰهَا ١٥
And He does not fear the consequences.
92:7
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلۡيُسۡرَىٰ ٧
We will make the path toward ease easy for them.
92:8
وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ ٨
But as for the one who is stingy, thinks they have no need,
92:9
وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ ٩
and rejects what is best,
92:10
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلۡعُسۡرَىٰ ١٠
We will make the path toward hardship easy for them.
92:11
وَمَا يُغۡنِي عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ ١١
Their wealth will be of no use when they fall.
92:12
إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا لَلۡهُدَىٰ ١٢
Guidance certainly belongs to Us,
92:13
وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلۡأٓخِرَةَ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ ١٣
and the Hereafter and this life belong to Us.
92:14
فَأَنذَرۡتُكُمۡ نَارٗا تَلَظَّىٰ ١٤
So I have warned you of a fiercely blazing Fire.
92:15
لَا يَصۡلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلۡأَشۡقَى ١٥
No one will enter it except the most miserable,
92:16
ٱلَّذِي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ١٦
who rejected the truth and turned away.
92:17
وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلۡأَتۡقَى ١٧
But the one most mindful of Allah will be kept far from it—
92:18
ٱلَّذِي يُؤۡتِي مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ ١٨
the one who gives away their wealth to purify themselves,
92:19
وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعۡمَةٖ تُجۡزَىٰٓ ١٩
not because anyone has done them a favor that needs to be repaid,
92:20
إِلَّا ٱبۡتِغَآءَ وَجۡهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ ٢٠
but only seeking the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High.
92:21
وَلَسَوۡفَ يَرۡضَىٰ ٢١
And they will surely be satisfied.
93:6
أَلَمۡ يَجِدۡكَ يَتِيمٗا فَـَٔاوَىٰ ٦
Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter?
93:7
وَوَجَدَكَ ضَآلّٗا فَهَدَىٰ ٧
And He found you not knowing the revealed way, then guided you.
93:8
وَوَجَدَكَ عَآئِلٗا فَأَغۡنَىٰ ٨
And He found you in need and gave you enough.
93:9
فَأَمَّا ٱلۡيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقۡهَرۡ ٩
So never treat the orphan harshly,
93:10
وَأَمَّا ٱلسَّآئِلَ فَلَا تَنۡهَرۡ ١٠
and never push away the one who asks.
93:11
وَأَمَّا بِنِعۡمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثۡ ١١
And speak of your Lord's blessings.
94:7
فَإِذَا فَرَغۡتَ فَٱنصَبۡ ٧
So when you are free, devote yourself fully,
94:8
وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَٱرۡغَب ٨
and turn your longing toward your Lord.
95:7
فَمَا يُكَذِّبُكَ بَعۡدُ بِٱلدِّينِ ٧
So after all this, what could make you deny the Judgment?
95:8
أَلَيۡسَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَحۡكَمِ ٱلۡحَٰكِمِينَ ٨
Is Allah not the most just of all judges?
96:7
أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰٓ ٧
when they think they have no need.
96:8
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰٓ ٨
Surely, the return is to your Lord.
96:9
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يَنۡهَىٰ ٩
Have you seen the one who tries to stop
96:10
عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ ١٠
a servant when he prays?
96:11
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ ١١
What if that servant is following guidance,
96:12
أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰٓ ١٢
or encouraging mindfulness of Allah?
96:13
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ ١٣
What if that other person rejects the truth and turns away?
96:14
أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ ١٤
Does he not know that Allah sees?
96:15
كـَلَّا لَئِن لَّمۡ يَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ ١٥
No! If he does not stop, We will certainly seize him by the front of his head—
96:16
نَاصِيَةٖ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٖ ١٦
a lying, sinful forehead.
96:17
فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهُۥ ١٧
So let him call his supporters.
96:18
سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ ١٨
We will call the guards of Hell.
96:19
كـَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡۤ وَٱقۡتَرِب۩ ١٩
No! Do not obey him. Prostrate yourself and come closer to Allah.
98:5
وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓاْ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ حُنَفَآءَ وَيُقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤۡتُواْ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَۚ وَذَٰلِكَ دِينُ ٱلۡقَيِّمَةِ ٥
Yet they were commanded only to worship Allah with sincere devotion to Him alone, turning toward the true faith, to establish prayer and give zakah. That is the upright way.
98:6
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمۡ شَرُّ ٱلۡبَرِيَّةِ ٦
Those who disbelieve among the People of the Book and those who associate others with Allah will be in the Fire of Hell, remaining there. They are the worst of creation.
98:7
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمۡ خَيۡرُ ٱلۡبَرِيَّةِ ٧
But those who believe and do good and righteous deeds—they are the best of creation.
98:8
جَزَآؤُهُمۡ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ جَنَّٰتُ عَدۡنٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدٗاۖ رَّضِيَ ٱللَّهُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَرَضُواْ عَنۡهُۚ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَنۡ خَشِيَ رَبَّهُۥ ٨
Their reward with their Lord will be Gardens of lasting residence, with rivers flowing beneath them, remaining there forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. That is for the one who stands in awe of their Lord.
On that Day people will come forward in separate groups to be shown their deeds.
99:7
فَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيۡرٗا يَرَهُۥ ٧
So whoever does even the smallest speck's weight of good will see it,
99:8
وَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٖ شَرّٗا يَرَهُۥ ٨
and whoever does even the smallest speck's weight of evil will see it.
100:7
وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٞ ٧
and they themselves are a witness to it.
100:8
وَإِنَّهُۥ لِحُبِّ ٱلۡخَيۡرِ لَشَدِيدٌ ٨
And they are truly intense in their love of wealth.
100:9
۞ أَفَلَا يَعۡلَمُ إِذَا بُعۡثِرَ مَا فِي ٱلۡقُبُورِ ٩
Do they not know what will happen when those in the graves are brought out,
100:10
وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِي ٱلصُّدُورِ ١٠
and what is hidden in people's hearts is exposed?
100:11
إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّخَبِيرُۢ ١١
Their Lord will certainly be fully aware of them that Day.
101:7
فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٖ رَّاضِيَةٖ ٧
they will have a life of contentment.
101:8
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ ٨
But as for the one whose scales are light,
101:9
فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٞ ٩
their home will be the abyss.
101:10
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهۡ ١٠
And what could make you understand what that is?
101:11
نَارٌ حَامِيَةُۢ ١١
A fiercely blazing Fire.
104:6
نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُوقَدَةُ ٦
Allah's Fire, fiercely kindled,
104:7
ٱلَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلۡأَفۡـِٔدَةِ ٧
which reaches deep into the hearts.
104:8
إِنَّهَا عَلَيۡهِم مُّؤۡصَدَةٞ ٨
It will close in over them
104:9
فِي عَمَدٖ مُّمَدَّدَةِۭ ٩
with towering columns.
You will certainly see the Hellfire.
102:7
ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيۡنَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ ٧
Then you will certainly see it with your own eyes.
102:8
ثُمَّ لَتُسۡـَٔلُنَّ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ٨
Then, on that Day, you will certainly be questioned about the blessings you enjoyed.
107:6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ ٦
those who only want to be seen,
107:7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ ٧
and who withhold even simple acts of help.
111

Al-Masad

The Palm Fiber

111:1
تَبَّتۡ يَدَآ أَبِي لَهَبٖ وَتَبَّ ١
Ruined are the hands of Abu Lahab, and ruined is he!
111:2
مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ ٢
His wealth and everything he earned will be of no use to him.
111:3
سَيَصۡلَىٰ نَارٗا ذَاتَ لَهَبٖ ٣
He will enter a fiercely blazing Fire,
111:4
وَٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلۡحَطَبِ ٤
along with his wife, the carrier of firewood,
111:5
فِي جِيدِهَا حَبۡلٞ مِّن مَّسَدِۭ ٥
with a rope of twisted fiber around her neck.
112

Al-Ikhlāṣ

Pure Devotion

112:1
قُلۡ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ١
Say: He is Allah—the One.
112:2
ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ ٢
Allah, al-Ṣamad—the One everyone depends on, while He depends on no one.
Worth knowing

Al-Ṣamad is a rich Qur'anic name. Everything ultimately depends upon Allah; He depends upon nothing.

112:3
لَمۡ يَلِدۡ وَلَمۡ يُولَدۡ ٣
He has no child, nor was He born.
112:4
وَلَمۡ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدُۢ ٤
And there is absolutely nothing comparable to Him.
113

Al-Falaq

Daybreak

113:1
قُلۡ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلۡفَلَقِ ١
Say: I seek protection with the Lord of daybreak,
113:2
مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ ٢
from the evil of what He created,
113:3
وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ ٣
from the evil of the night when its darkness settles,
113:4
وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّٰثَٰتِ فِي ٱلۡعُقَدِ ٤
from the evil of those who blow on knots,
113:5
وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ ٥
and from the evil of an envier when they envy.
